Steve Curnow plays a joke on himself |

It all started when I saw Steve driving around on his forklift with his woolen gloves sticking out of his pockets. Driving around in the chillers makes you very cold because you are not doing anything physical while sitting on the forklift, others that do physical work such as palletizing never need to wear freezer jackets nor thick wooly gloves. When you drive in and out of these areas it is not always necessary to wear the gloves on the forklift but as I knew Stevie was driving down to the freezer from time to time I decided to amuse myself by pick-pocketing Steve so that he would be without his gloves when he drives into the freezer.
I didn’t want to leave him without gloves permanently nor did I want him to look for them for a long time so I decided to go out to his desk and tell his work partner Martin that I was putting MY gloves in their cabinet. I was expecting Steve to mention that he had misplaced his gloves to Martin and then somehow Martin would be suspicious of whose gloves were in the cabinet, but instead he told Steve that I had gone to the office for a while and left my in their cabinet and that Steve should play a joke on me by doing something to the gloves. Martin quickly gave the gloves and a roll of masking tape to Steve and told him to do ‘something’ to them while he kept me busy.
Martin came into the office and I asked him whether Steve had asked about his gloves yet. Suddenly it dawned on Martin whose gloves were in the cabinet and then told me that he had just handed the gloves to Stevie along with a roll of masking tape and told him that they were my gloves. We both had a giggle that Steve had most likely not recognized his own gloves and taped them up, sure enough he had and when I walked through his area to my own desk I asked Steve;
“Have you been up to mischief Stevie?”
“No, it wasn’t me it was him”, pointing at Martin and thinking that I had already seen the gloves.
I had not seen the gloves because Steve had put them back into the cupboard after he had finished taping them together. Being a nice guy he even wrote my name on them so that I would know that they were mine. I then told him that I heard he had played a joke on himself because I had just borrowed his gloves and had put them back into their cupboard after I had finished.

Stevie then looked at Martin and told him that there would be payback for tricking him into taping up his own gloves. I thought that it was a great outcome since Martin got the blame for something I started and Martin didn’t seem to mind taking the credit for the prank since Stevie had wrapped his own gloves in tape. |
